On the way home from work Geocaches

April 20th, 2009 No comments

After yet another “fun” day in the office I decided to do some caching in the lovely weather.

Had seven lined up – but only found 5 which will do me.

Got some really strange looks from people with me trampling through weeds/nettles (got stung loads)/hedges/up banks all in my work togs. Much fun

First find of the evening was Enigma which was a toughy to find in the trees but got there in the end. Left Highlighter pen

First failure of the day was Star Trek 6: Dilithium Crystals tis near a sub station and work men were right next to the cache location, will try again at a later date. Next up is failure number 2 Star Trek 7: Seven of Nine I just could not find it and this was nettle city and near a junction, so I was getting load of strange looks. On the way to this one for about 300ft I had a Kestrel flying/gliding 1 foot above the ground 6 f00t in front of the car.. amazing!!

Ah ha.. success again 2rd find was The View From The Hill nice views of the windmills – left Highlighter pen. On a roll now for find number 3 Dark Lane scared some cyclist stupid when I jumped down from the bank it was up. Left a marble and took a bear.

On to number 4 Hart Field dead easy find. Left pencil sharpener and took toy car.

Final and 5th find of the evening was Traveller’s Choice. Nice easy one to finish with but a nightmare to get the car out of in rush hour traffic.

Yorkshire Geocache finds

April 17th, 2009 No comments

After a day at Eden Camp, which is a good day out and very good value for money, we went Geocaching on the way home.

Was getting late and wanted dinner at the pub so only looked for 3 caches.

First up was Yorkshire’s Garden Of Eden fairly easy find if it was in the location it was supposed to be in. Took a Tavel Bug, left a marble and replaced it to where it should have been.

Next was Nunnington Panorama excellent location and good hiding place. Took a tape measure and left a 486 cpu.

Almost missed the next one and had to turn the car round. Great views again and found this one with ease thanks to the clue – Newgate Bank

Multiple Geocache finds

April 12th, 2009 No comments

Today we decided to “have a bash” at finding several caches in one day – today we found 4 (3 normal and 1 multi). It would have been more but the multi took a bit of time.

1st up was ZAKS PAD a nice easy find and we took 1 travel bug and left a packet of carrot seeds.

then a short drive to Guisborough Forest Walkway and then a short walk to the cache

another short drive to Skelton for part 1 of the Smuggler Quest 2 – Saltburn – Which was in a graveyard.

Next up was Sky Train. This was a tricky one to find as people were everywhere but a great view of the viaduct.

Then we got the last 2 clues to work out the location of the cache for the Smuggler Quest 2 – Saltburn. It was a short walk up hill and again lots of people hanging about but eventually we found it.

Bean Frame and Raised Bed

April 11th, 2009 No comments

Today I decided to make my bean frame and Helen made a raised bed for the strawberrys. That was it today as I was going to plant the seed spuds, but I forgot the slug pellets to stick in the trench.

Allotment planting begins

April 5th, 2009 No comments

Finally started to plant stuff in the plot, this must mean spring is here!!

Started off by digging out the water tank I use for carrots. To my total disgust there was a curled up HUGE dead rat buried at the bottom on the soil. No idea how it got there but wasn’t what I was wanting to see 1st thing in the morning. Anyway got rid of it and renewed the soil/compost and sowed Carrot – F1 Nelson.

Then planted the following.

5 rows of Stuttgarter Onion

2 rows of Golden Gourmet Shallots

20 Broad Bean – Aguaduice

46 Board Bean – Witkem Manita

Put “Growmore” over the area set aside for the spuds. Should be in this weekend.

The whole time I was there I had a Robin for company and he/she was pottering about just a  few feet from me while I worked. Every time I grabbed my phone to take a picture, he/she took off…..
