Meet Bangaii Cardinalfish aka Cardinal Bob

April 15th, 2010 3 comments

After the death of the 2 clown fish we lost our nerve at keeping more fish. The clowns just didn’t eat at all for a week and starved themselves to death. A week later we bought a Bangaii Cardinalfish and waited with baited breath to see if he would eat at all. On day 2 he started to chow down, so the clowns died because of a problem they had and not something we did wrong…

Photos just don’t do the colours justice

Added some Coral.

March 22nd, 2010 No comments

Picked up some Coral frags this weekend from other marine keepers. Purple clove polyps, Hammer, Ricordea, Mushroom, Duncan, Leather (no pic yet) and small colony of Zoas.

Some of them are Fluorescent Corals which mean under the Blue LED lights on an evening they go bright green/orange, etc. Still trying ot work out how I can take photos of this with my compact camera.

The Duncan Coral nabbed a small bit of prawn I added and it was just a tad too big for it to eat in one go….. One of the pics show this. Some more pics of the Cleaner Shrimp but the Blood Shrimp are hiding….

Shrimps

March 20th, 2010 No comments

Yesterday we bought 2 Cleaner Shrimps and 2 Blood Shrimp. I started to acclimatise them slowly and after 45 mins I basically ignored the drip drip drip as the slightly larger blood started to beat 10 tons of sh*t out of the smaller one. The smaller one lost 3 or 4 legs/antenna and was looking in a bad way. So netted and dumped into the main tank they went.

He wasn’t looking great and hid straight away. After about 30 mins he hobbed out and looked a tad sad. I hope he survives but not sure if he will. If he dies can I get my cash back ??

The cleaner went in next and are already become the stars of the tank. Very curious and look great.

March 11th, 2010 1 comment

Well I read you can put shop bought oysters into a marine tank, I thought it was an April Fool. So popped to Tesco and £2 later, we have 4 oysters as our 1st Marine tank dwellers. Hope they survive. 2 of them starting to open up after 5 mins of being in the tank!

Bought our 1st CUC (Clean Up Crew) today.

4 Red Leg Hermits crabs

5 Turbo Snails

Tank update.

February 8th, 2010 1 comment

Tank arrived last week but we still haven’t finished the living room, so fingers crossed it will go in its final resting place in 10 days time. Almost bought everything we need and you really do need a lot of stuff for Marine fish and Corals.

Already plumbed in the RO Unit under the sink – that took some nerves, putting a hole in the main cold water pipe!!

Hole in mains water!

Hole in mains water!
